As a supporter of alternative work arrangements, I found this to be a very interesting article on the future of remote work.
In the article linked below, Mr. Kelly discusses the obvious benefits of working from home - increased employee morale, not adding a commute to our normal workday stresses, etc. - but he also calls attention to another side of that coin. If we start moving towards more of a remote working culture, what will the impact be on workers in areas with higher costs of living when employers have their pick of anyone around the country?
I appreciate these companies for being innovators and taking this stance of allowing remote work going forward. They will have a good number of challenges to work through in the process (in addition to the disparity in cost of living), such as maintaining company culture, team relationship building, alignment of perks, and many others! Personally, I can't wait to see what they come up with to solve their challenges - it's time to get creative!
